From next month the Sunshine Coast will be home to Australia’s biggest display of synthetic putting greens, with the completion of a display centre in Doonan.
The display centre, which will be open to the public by appointment seven days a week, is installed at the home of Grathan Leatherbarrow, who is a garden designer and landscaper and installs synthetic putting greens for Pro-tech Corp.
Including four 50-60sqm greens on display which include six tees, nine holes, two bunkers, two waterholes and a rainforest creek which you can play over or along, the putting green centre has taken Grathan almost eight months to complete in his spare time and on weekends, and will give people a chance to try the synthetic putting greens for themselves.
“I am a keen golfer and when I saw this land, I could see that I could make myself a nice little golf course; it had the potential for a good place to have a chip and putt in the backyard,” said Grathan.
“The beauty of these Pro-tech greens is that they require very little maintenance and no watering and play as true as the top professional putting greens around the world.
“The greens are excellent for putting and chipping practice in your own home and as a landscaping and entertainment alternative for keen golfers,” says Grathan.
Pro-tech have already installed a putting green in the Sydney home of Australian golfing champion Peter O’Malley.
As well as the synthetic greens, Grathan will also be showcasing Pro-tech’s no-mow, no-maintenance synthetic lawns, which look and feel like real grass, but are the perfect alternative for Australia’s drought-ridden landscape.
“With water restrictions in place, people are finding it very hard to grow lawn and have a beautiful garden, and I believe there will be a demand for synthetic lawns and greens in country areas, where the drought is at its worst,” says Grathan.
Pro-tech is owned by Bill Rorke, a former Australian international soccer player and keen amateur golfer. Both the putting greens and lawns are available nationwide and Pro-tech can be contacted on 1300 554 334.
