It is only a matter of time before football fields in Australia convert to synthetic grass, according to Bill Rorke, owner of one of Australia’s largest synthetic lawn installers, Pro-tech Corp.
“The technology that goes into producing synthetic lawn these days is very sophisticated, which means that not only does a synthetic lawn look real, but it will stand up to all the wear and tear on a football field,” said Rorke.
“We already know that some of the top soccer clubs in Europe use synthetic turf for their practice ovals, because grass simply can’t stand up to the harsh weather conditions.
“The harsh dry climate in Australia, accentuated by water restrictions, means that Australian soccer, league, rugby and Aussie Rules clubs will also need to look at alternatives to keep their turf in good condition.
“A 45mm version of our lawn system, which is manufactured using a European-derived technique called ‘fibrillation’, has been installed in homes all over Australia. Depending on the sport, most football ovals would require a 50mm to 75mm version.
“The best thing about synthetic lawns is that they require next to no maintenance to keep in top condition, nor do they require any watering what so ever,” said Bill Rorke.
Pro-tech also provides no-maintenance synthetic putting greens, one of which is in the Sydney home of Australian champion Peter O’Malley, who joins a host of international golfers to install the putting green, including Vijay Sing, Mark Calcavecchia, Sergio Garcia, Lee Janzen, Hale Irwin and Corey Paving to mention a few.
